In the example below we have three BGP autonomous systems (AS1, AS2 and AS3) each with one router in it. In this example assume that AS3 is a customer of AS1 and AS2 and is multihoming their connection with the two upstream providers for redundancy if one of the providers was to fail. In its default configuration BGP will re-advertise any routes advertised into the AS to all other peers, this means that if route x.x.x.x/24 was advertised to AS3 from AS2 then AS3 would advertise that route back out…
Well I know it was only a week ago that I did the SWITCH but after initially looking over the TSHOOT material I started to think that this was definitely going to be the easiest of the three certifications. In my day-job I do a lot of troubleshooting so my kind of mindset for the exam was already partially there, that coupled with the fact that it has been less than 6-months since I have done my ROUTE and SWITCH means that a lot of the things you learned whilst…
Well after last week’s failure I thought the best thing to do would be to just get right back on it, well this morning I retook the ROUTE exam and passed. The sections that I failed in last time I got >80% this time which is a relief! So starting tonight I am starting my SWITCH studies and hopefully if I can get on a roll then I will be able to take that within the next few weeks? Thanks for all the messages of encouragement and I will post…
Yesterday I took the ROUTE (642-902) exam, and yesterday I failed that very same exam. I failed the exam by a meagre 45 points which just helps to add insult to the injury. All in all I was very happy with the new way that Cisco have decided to do the exams and the new simulation questions are definitely a LOT more realistic than the old ones. The area’s that I let myself down on most were the area’s that I felt weakest in, IPv6 deployment (and more specifically transition)…
Well tomorrow I am taking the plunge and taking my ROUTE (642-902) exam. I began to suffer from ‘keep-pushing-it-back’ syndrome where I kept saying to myself that I would do it next week, then the same would happen the week after etc etc. I just have a few final points to go over and hopefully the different LSA-types will finally stick, I always manage to forget which way around they are, if anyone happens to have an easy way to remember them then let me know! Well I will post…
I have been going over some of my summary topics for EIGRP and just decided to lab one out so that I could see the effect of stub networks on convergence etc. I have attached a zip file with the GNS3 net file that I used for this lab if you want to follow along as well. There are still some kinks to work out with the recording of the videos so if you have any feedback please let me know. The net file can be downloaded here.
At the moment I am in the process of reading the Foundation Learning Guide by Diane Teare from cover to cover. When I first started my CCNP studies I purchased the BSCI (the precursor to the ROUTE exam) exam certification guide. If I could offer one piece of useful advice it would be to get the FLG instead of the cert guide and the FLG is a lot easier to read and covers more of the information you need to know. There is one person out there that covered the…
Whilst multicast has been removed from the new CCNPv6 exams this still doesn’t mean you get to escape it, there are several addresses that I sometimes find hard to remember which is which which are detailed below. A lot of the modern routing protocols (RIPv2, EIGRP, OSPF) use multicast over the older method of broadcast (RIPv1) to communicate with adjacent routers/neighbours. This gives the advantage that not all hosts will receive and therefore have to process these packets that are for instance destined for the EIGRP process as they do…
Taking a page from a few others that I have been following I have decided to start a blog to document my journeys along my way to gaining a set of the coveted CCIE digits. Just to add a little back-story my name is David Rothera and I’m 21 from Leeds, England. I have been working in the network support world for the last 2(ish) years working for a network service provider in Harrogate, England. Whilst working for them I have had experience of all kinds of Cisco hardware ranging…
